Producer Bias in Recent PBS Frontline Report: The Vaccine War
Parenting & Baby Care - Vaccination

PBS Frontline has The Vaccine War available to watch on their website and you can find the full interviews that did not make it in to the report here.  Reports like this do not aid in educating the populace, especially when allegations of open bias and omission of key information are raised.  They do not encourage open discussion of multiple viewpoints and the data points in support of each of these viewpoints.  Lastly, they collapse the discussion into an US vs THEM that allows one to create misleading associations between people who have similar viewpoints as a means of discrediting them.

For example, I am a firm believer in the importance of a mobile populace who have full access to a variety of transportation options from effective public transportation to inexpensive private transportation.  In this one area, I am in agreement with the person widely believed to be the driving force behind the VW Beetle.  Outside of this one instance, our views diverge dramatically and I prefer to avoid any associations.

I encourage you to watch the report, especially if you choose to follow an alternative vaccination schedule.  It will help you to better understand the arguments against your decisions and you can use that to prepare yourself for the questions you may face from friends, family, doctors, and others.  Additionally, there are a number of great resources that you can reference to better educate yourself.

To start, check out the Drs. Sears Website as well as Dr. Jay Gordon's Website.  Dr. Robert Sears' Vaccine Book was also an invaluable part of the research my wife and I did, and I heartily recommend that as well.

If you have any other links or resources that have proven valuable to you, please post them in the comments and we'll be sure to add them to our list!

(Full Disclosure:  My wife and I live in California where we can and have chosen to decline the battery of vaccines recommended for infants and toddlers.  We also have enjoyed a pediatrician who has respected that decision, while still encouraging us to revisit it at each of the vaccination stages.  We have friends and family who support our decision and those who feel they must express their disapproval every time any related topic is brought up.  We've learned to smile and nod.)
